To assure the full conformance with requirements and specifications, the Hellenic Defense Systems has built up and maintains a comprehensive and disciplined Quality Assurance System, which controls all stages of production from incoming material to the final product.
Well-equipped laboratories of Hellenic Defense Systems ensure the reliability and the high standards of the tests and measurements being made on the products. A series of tests in accordance with MIL- STD, STANAG, ASTM, EN, ISO, DIN, as well as the relevant specification of final products is performed.
Hellenic Defense Systems implements a Quality Management System certified according to ISO 9001:2015, while complying with NATO Quality Assurance requirements according to the standard AQAP -2110 in contracts with its customers, according to the requirements of the Ministries of Defense of Greece and other countries.
The Quality System’s implementation in the executed contracts is permanently monitored by Government Quality Assurance Representatives.
There are 3 Ballistic tests sites* operating at HDS premises:
- The Ballistic Tests Laboratory – Ballistic Station at Hymettus Plant (Athens) for testing small caliber ammunition and antiballistic equipment.
The Laboratory is certified by NATO as a National Test Center for testing small caliber ammunition.
The Laboratory, operated by highly skilled personnel, covers an area of 450 m2, it includes five tunnels of 50m to 200m length and it’s fully equipped.
- The Ballistic Station at Aeghion Plant for testing Aeghion plant products (weapons). The testing facilities are located inside the Aeghion Plant premises. The test station includes four tunnels of 25 to 100 meters length, as well as an open range of 15 meters length.
- The Ballistic Station at Lavrion Plant for testing ammunition and medium caliber weapons (cannons, grenade launchers etc.). Ballistic tests are performed at an open range of 200 meters length which is located inside the Plant.
In addition, HDS uses various Hellenic Ministry of Defence proving grounds (mainly the Koskina proving ground at Evia island) for testing ammunition and long range heavy weapons (mortars etc.).

Metrology Laboratories
Metrology Laboratory of Hymettus by applying the 17025 standard*
The Metrology Laboratory is part of the industrial facilities of Ymittos of the company Hellenic Defense Systems.
The Laboratory operates on the basis of clearly documented procedures and implements a management system according to ELOT EN ISO / IEC 17025. The laboratory staff is trained on the procedures, methods and proper use of the equipment. They have the experience and ability to perform even the most complex high-precision measurements and tests.
The laboratory covers an area of 300 m2 and has been specially designed to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the measurements and tests performed. The Calibration Rooms of the Metrology Laboratory have been constructed on special foundations to ensure the isolation of vibrations. The Laboratory is equipped with special black granite workbenches (classes 1 and 00 according to DIN 876).
The environmental conditions inside the laboratory comply with the international technical specifications for such installations and are maintained by the use of a special air conditioning system that maintains the temperature at 20 ° C ± 0,5 ° C and the humidity at a level between 50% – 60%.
The laboratory equipment includes common and special micrometers, calipers, electronic vertical height meters, granite application plates, standard tile boxes (standard rectangular measuring blocks), category -K -, – 0-, -1-, -2-
Standard spheres and cylinders, calibrators for measuring instruments and the following measuring machines:
PMM 866-3D measuring machine, for large pieces – accuracy: up to 0.50 μm.
SIP measuring machine – 302M, for cylindrical and flat objects, internal and external threads, etc. – accuracy: up to 0.40 μm.
UMW – SKI measuring microscope, with magnifying glasses and accessories, with incident light for “blind” measuring points, radii, contour measurement, angles, radii, thread angles, etc.
Mechanical comparator TESA UPD, complete with accessories (electronic precision thermometer with 4 sensors, monochrome light source, optical level, etc.) for the calibration of measuring plates (blocks) – precision class: 0,1 & 2.
MINI – HORIZONTAL calibration device, for the calibration of measuring clocks (lever type, etc.) and the calibration of various small instruments – accuracy: up to 0.40 μm.
Vertical height measuring device TRIMOS V600 +, for height measurement, as well as distances between centers of holes – accuracy: 1 μm.
MECMESIN TWC-1 & TWC-4 torque calibration devices.
Standard weights for calibration of F&N class balances.

Metrology Laboratory of Aeghion*
The Metrology Laboratory is part of the industrial facilities of Aeghion plant of Hellenic Defense Systems.
The Laboratory operates on the basis of clearly documented procedures and implements a management system according to ELOT EN ISO 9001. The laboratory staff is trained on the procedures, methods and proper use of the equipment. They have the experience and ability to perform even the most complex high-precision measurements and tests.
The Laboratory is equipped with special black granite workbenches (classes 1 and 00 according to DIN 876).
The environmental conditions inside the laboratory comply with the international technical specifications for such installations and are maintained by the use of a special air conditioning system that maintains the temperature at 20 ° C ± 2 ° C and the humidity at a level between 30% – 50%.
The laboratory equipment includes common and special micrometers, calipers, electronic vertical height meters, granite application plates, standard tile boxes (standard rectangular measuring blocks), category -00-, – 0-, -1-, -2-

ETALON ECM200 measuring microscope, with magnifying glasses and accessories, with incident light for “blind” measuring points, radii, contour measurement, angles, radii, thread angles, etc.
